This December, Leland Historical Society will again participate in Wreaths Across America, a nationwide program to lay wreaths on the graves of veterans. The historical society will join more than two million volunteers and supporters who will gather in 4,600 participating locations in all 50 states to lay wreaths. Last December we met our goal to place a wreath on every veteran grave in Leland Cemetery. This year’s goal is again 162 wreaths for Leland Cemetery.
Live pine wreaths are $17 each and can be sponsored for a specific veteran or for any veteran who doesn’t have a sponsor. To purchase a wreath for Leland Cemtery, go to www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/IL0253P. For every wreath sponsored, Leland Historical Society receives $5, which will be used for maintenance of the archival collection.
By changing the cemetery location on the website, wreaths can be purchased for veterans in other local cemeteries like Baker, Little Indian, or Victor, and the society will make sure those wreaths get laid as well. Wreaths can also be sponsored at participating cemeteries across the United States.
Anyone who wishes to help place wreaths on graves should meet at Leland Cemetery on December 14 at 11:00 a.m. A brief ceremony will be held at the flagpoles prior to laying of the wreaths.
Sponsoring wreaths in honor of or in memory of a loved one who served Remembers the fallen, Honors those who served, and Teaches the next generation the value of freedom.
The deadline to order at www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/IL0253P is Friday, November 29, 2024.
