My Great Grandfather was Oliver Oakland. He was postmaster in Baker. Mail came on the train to his general store. He left there with his wife and daughter to buy a farm in Minnesota 1904.

Oliver Oakland is my great grandfather. I’m so excited to find this story while doing a google search on Baker. I have pictures of that depot store elevator and creamery.

Jeff Pederson was the mechanic that worked at Marshall's Garage, then owned it.

Leland High School's coach of nearly 40 years is buried there. Dick Inman.

I believe the correct address is 235 South Main, my home, as there's no 234.

My older brother, Bob Davy, worked here in the early '80's. He's got a few stories about it. I remember it as being one of the last full service stations I can remember going to.

I've always wanted more information on Baker and didn't know the original name was Munson! Thank you so much for this. Where were most people from Baker buried? Does anyone know the largest population in Baker? What is current population? If people have a Baker address, where does their mail get processed and from where is it distributed? Thanks so much!

Thank you! I did not know this about my ancestor!

As a great-great nephew of Olga, I surprisingly heard a lot about her growing up. My mother still has some of her former furniture and pictures of her tucked away. She was pretty much like a grandmother to my mom, as her real grandparents died before she was born. Thanks for taking the time to research this and keep history alive!

#4: Love the scrap book pictures. I was in the one with the Boy Scouts, top row 2nd from the right. This was taken at the National Jamboree in Valley Forge, PA. July 1964. 6 boys from Leland were chosen to go. Rick Olson, Barry Riskedal, Scott Sawyer, Tom Allen, Ron Stallings, and Jim Hatland. -Jim Hatland

#5: Natural gas comes to Leland, 1960. Members of the village board and representatives of the gas company gather to ceremoniously turn on the lights. Left to right: _?_, Larry Bianco, _?_, Mayor Fred Legner, Dr. Joe Sherman, two gas company reps.
